Before applying the mission, the basecoat must be sealed using a diluted acrylic paint; apply several coats and then smooth the surface. After smoothing, apply one or two thin coats of mission using a soft-bristled, suitably sized brush. Leave to rest until the mission is slightly sticky before applying the gold leaf. Various types of mission are available: 12-HOUR VARNISH MISSION: leave to dry for 12 hours before applying the gold leaf. SPIRIT-BASED MISSION: particularly suitable for use on water-repellent materials, the gold leaf should be applied after approximately 30 minutes. WATER-BASED MISSION: suitable for less experienced users, the gold leaf can be applied from one to twelve hours after application.
